Pretty fun
The game is a top down, strategy shooter. If anyone has played Borderlands Legends, it plays similar to that (as well as some others I can't think of off the top of my head). Using taps and holds you move a team of up to four characters from the comic version of the Walking Dead to kill every walker in a level, gather supplies to unlock stuff and sometimes rescue another survivor. There's no story here; locations from the comic are used but if you want a story you'll need to go to the comic, TV or Telltale's TWD series of adventure games. This game is clearly for fans (the unlockable triva would mean nothing if you've never seen/read any TWD) who would like an in-universe game focused on the walker killing rather than the relationships between all the characters.
That doesn't mean this isn't a good addition to TWD media series. While there's no emotional events going on, it's far from a mindless zombie shooter. Taking the right characters into the right levels can be the difference between winning or having your face eaten. Each character has a special skill as well as a passive effect on the entire party. Rick's character skill will guarantee he gets head shots while his passive skill makes everyone more accurate. There are also environmental distractions you can use to attract walkers within range (sound range is shown by a Metal Gear Solid 4-esque ring around distractions and they also double as range indicators for each character).
Each level can be played on different skill levels and supplies can unlock characters as well as upgrade ammo capacity, damage, health and adrenaline (how fast skills recharge). Artwork can be unlocked and saved to your device and the trivia will most likely be a favorite unlockable for fans of the comics. From what I've seen the trivia mostly relates to the comics and not the show, except for things that are identical between the two.
